AI walked into a bar in Austin where I have been drinking occasionally for years. My father drank there, and so did my grandfather. As I started to order a drink, I saw a sign that said "No Smoking". Before I could figure out where to put my smoldering nick-stick, a smart-alecky waitress sneers "you can't smoke in here".  Great, so I walk the fuck out. Turns out it is the law now in Austin and a lot of other places. If Shelly Sekula-Gibbs had her way, Houston would be that way too. That's the only reason I intentionally voted against that bitch on November 7th. She lost. Groovy.
The truth is that smoking is not the leading cause of cancer. That would be heredity. It's not second either -  that would be pollution. It's not third either, that would be other illnesses as a cause. Smoking as a health threat is overrated. There has never been any evidence that secondhand smoking poses any threat whatsoever. The 1994 Clinton-era study that seemed to say so was later discredited in court for falsifying results and statistics.
But even if it does pose some minor health threat, I'm uncomfortable with the government telling property owners that they can't allow smoking. Next they will go after the booze too, because it's not about smoking, it's about religion. Whether it's Christianity or the new religion that worships the human body through vitamins, exercise, and other healthy habits.
Listen up you stupid smoking NAZIs: What makes you think they will stop with smoking? What legal document gives such a right to any government in this country?
Incidentally, the first government to ban smoking in public was the Third Reich under Adolph Hitler. Hitler hated tobacco smoke, and NAZI posters encouraged Germans to give up tobacco. Needless to say, the Camel-smoking GIs in Pattons army handed them a well deserved ass-whipping.
The smoking ban people are closet fascists. Even worse for them, they probably don't even realize it.
